Ceramics Statement
My work has evolved via years of experimentation, an interest in multiple fields outside of ceramics, and techniques learned from other artists. Appropriating the visual cues of Car Culture and Sci-Fi into the formal setting of functional pottery, through the lines and forms utilized, is the focus of my creative drive. I strive to bring animation and dynamic movement into my work, by pushing outside of the "normal" boundaries of ceramics while respecting traditional techniques.

This piece was a happy accident that happened while demonstrating during the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival. It was the first time I'd ever tried to push the clay as far in as those indents go, and it caused a really nice volume to be contained right there at the shoulder. This piece has inspired my current larger vases.

The glass runs on this piece versus it's aqua counterpart are not quite as effective at creating the sense of drama that they do on the aqua piece because of the glaze the glass is on top of. I've since stopped putting the glass on these yellow pieces in the same way as the aqua pieces.
